Jordy Smith déjà sorti, lui qu'on présentait un peu comme le futur "tueur" du dream tour, je suis surpris de le voir déjà dehors.
Dommage pour micky picon et tiago pires, et une petite pensée pour Aritz Aramburu
45 - Aritz Aranburu :
Aritz injured himself during an air attempt in the Expression Session, and had to withdraw from the event. The real question is, what was Aritz doing going big in the Expression Session? It was like Paris Hilton going to the Oscars ***spam*** the expectation to win something. There's no way Aritz is going to beat out Slater, Jordy, and Dane in an Expression Session -- unless he wins for punting over that flying pig. However, Aritz is a strong contender for the "worst style on tour" award. Perhaps his aborted R2 heat against Neco could have settled that one. Surf fans rejoiced when that heat magically disappeared from the schedule.
44 - Tiago Pires :
I caught a lot of grief for writing off Tiago's small wave attack last month. The Portuguese seem to be an, umm, patriotic bunch, and it must be pretty exciting for them to see their first ambassador reach the Big Show. Tiago is a great surfer and all ... but after watching him spaz through stuck rails, I stand by my call: Carissa Moore is better in small rights. The poor guy is just trying too hard. The judging panel seems to agree, as evidenced by Tiago's 7.33 R2 heat total. Let it flow, dude.
41 - Mikael Picon :
How badly did Taj smoke Miky Picon in R3? The numbers tell part of the story: 19.20 to 7.6. But what does that mean? Some perspective: If Taj had been scored on best two waves, and had an interference called against him, while Miky was scored on best 6 waves, Miky would still have lost by a wide margin. Or try this: Taj could have had two interference calls, and had both his wave scores cut in half, and still beat Miky handily. So it was kinda like Baron Davis' rude dunk on Andrei Kirilenko... except even worse. Yes, I know, Picon beat Andy in R1. But Miky and the other Euro low seeds are nowhere near Flores' level.
8 - Jérémy Florès :
Is it just me, or does Jeremy Flores kinda remind you of Balki from 'Perfect Strangers?' That aside, I gotta hand it to Flores: In the kick-off event the little bugger pretty much responded to all criticism ***spam*** improvement. In the past I chided Jeremy for questionable style and a lack of explosive turns; at Snapper he won heats ***spam*** flow and big ol' blasts. Last year I whined that Flores never cracked a semi; this year he made the semis straight off, and could have gone farther had Slater not gone psycho on him.
